Sioned is starting her 23/24 Season with a World Premier of a new opera in the Welsh Language. She will be touring Wales with Opra Cymru singing the role of Olwen in the new opera written by Gareth Glyn, Iwan Teifion Davies and Patrick Young.
Later in the Season she is very excited to be making her Welsh National Opera debut in Il Trittico.
Sioned had a busy 2023 Summer covering the title role of Carmen for Scottish Opera. She sang from the side for the dress rehearsal and also sang the role with full orchestra for the Access Performances in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Aberdeen. Earlier in 2023 she performed La Badessa and La Ciesca in Scottish Opera’s production of Il Trittico by Puccini, directed by Sir David McVicar. After a successful run of The Seal Woman by Granville Bantock and Marjory Kennedy-Fraser last year with Scots Opera Project, she sang the title role again in Arran, West Kilbride and also as part of the Edinburgh Trad Festival and Perth Festival of the Arts.
In Autumn 2022 Sioned covered the title role of Thérèse by Massenet for the Lammermuir Festival. Also in 2022 Sioned was thrilled to perform the title role of The Seal Woman by Granville Bantock and Marjory Kennedy-Fraser with Scots Opera Project that hadn’t been performed for over 60 years.
In Autumn 2021 and Spring 2022 Sioned sang Tessa in The Gondoliers and Kalyba in Utopia Ltd. with Scottish Opera. Also for Scottish Opera in 2021 Sioned sang the role of Meg Page in the Sir David McVicar production of Falstaff.
In 2019/20 season Sioned made her debut with English National Opera as Pitti-Sing in The Mikado and sang 2nd Secretary to Mao in Nixon in China with Scottish Opera.
She made her professional operatic début in 2012 as Margarida in The Yellow Sofa for Glyndebourne Festival Opera’s Jerwood Project, both in the Festival and on the autumn tour, she returned to Glyndebourne to cover the roles of Olga, Eugene Onegin and Annina, La Traviata in 2014.
In 2013 she performed Kate in The Pirates of Penzance with Scottish Opera and was subsequently offered an Emerging Artist Contract with the company for the 2013/14 season where her roles included Eduige in Rodelinda and Third Witch in Macbeth. She has since performed as a Guest Artist with the company in the roles of Third Dryad in Rusalka; Pitti-Sing in The Mikado, Olga in Eugene Onegin; Stewardess in Flight, Maddalena in Rigoletto and 3rd Lady in The Magic Flute .
Other operatic experiences include Tisbe in La Cenerentola for West Green House Opera, her Spanish début as Olga in Eugene Onegin with Opera Valladolid, 2nd Lady in The Magic Flute with Longborough Festival Opera, cover Eduige in Rodelinda for English National Opera and Title Role in a Welsh language translation of Carmen at the National Eisteddfod of Wales with Opra Cymru. Whilst a student she sang Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro, Frau Reich in Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor, Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Marta in Iolanta; Mere Jeanne in Dialogues des Carmelites; cover Madame de Croissy in Dialogues des Carmelites and cover Florence Pike in Albert Herring.
As well as opera Sioned enjoys performing chamber music and recently performed some Vivaldi with La Serenissima in the Valletta Baroque Festival, Malta and has toured with Ensemble Cymru. Sioned’s concert highlights include performing Henze’s Voices at the Barbican Centre, the alto solo in Stravinsky’s Les Noces at LSO St Luke’s London, the alto solo in Handel’s Messiah in Sweden and Serenade to Music, Vaughan with Graham Johnson accompanying. She has also performed Elgar’s Sea Pictures and The Music Makers, Mozart Requiem, Dvorak Stabat Mater and many more oratorio works with various choral societies throughout the United Kingdom.
