Singing Lessons in Glasgow – Frequently Asked Questions

Starting singing lessons can feel like a big step, so it’s natural to have questions. Here you’ll find answers to some of the most common ones, whether you’re completely new, sing in a choir, or just want to feel more confident in your voice.

If you don’t see your question here, feel free to get in touch—I’m always happy to chat.

Do I need previous experience to start singing lesson?

Not at all. Many of my students start as complete beginners. We build everything from the ground up—breath, support, and confidence—at your pace.

What happens in a typical lesson?

Each lesson is tailored to you, but usually includes:

  • Gentle warm-ups
  • Technique work - posture, breath, tension release
  • Applying that technique to songs
  • Interpretation
  • Clear things to practise between lessons

What if I’m nervous or lack confidence?

That’s completely normal. I aim to make every lesson feel relaxed and supportive, so you can settle in and enjoy the process. Building confidence is just as important as building technique, and the more lessons you have, the more at ease you’ll feel.

How often should I have lessons?

Most people come weekly, fortnightly, or monthly depending on their goals and schedule. Weekly lessons tend to bring the fastest progress, fortnightly is the most popular option, and monthly works well for maintaining your voice. We’ll always find a rhythm that works best for you.

Do I need to practise between lessons?

A little goes a long way— even 10 minutes a day can make a big difference. I’ll always give you clear, manageable things to work on, but I completely understand that life gets busy, so we keep it realistic and flexible.

Can you help with exams and auditions?

Yes—whether it’s ABRSM exams, auditions, or performances, I can help you prepare with both technique, interpretation and confidence.
